CCTV news: Data released by the National Energy Administration on October 21 showed that in the first three quarters of 2026, electricity consumption in the entire society increased by 3.9% year-on-year, with rapid growth in electricity consumption in high-tech and equipment manufacturing, charging and swapping services, and Internet data services.

From January to September 2026, the total electricity consumption in society was 8,073.4 billion kilowatt hours, a year-on-year increase of 3.9%.Looking at electricity consumption by industry, the primary industry consumed 118.2 billion kilowatt hours of electricity, a year-on-year increase of 3.4%; the secondary industry consumed 5109.8 billion kilowatt hours of electricity, a year-on-year increase of 4.1%.Among them, industrial power consumption was 5,063.2 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 4.3%; high-tech and equipment manufacturing industry power consumption was 961.9 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 8.7%.The electricity consumption of the tertiary industry was 1,610.9 billion kWh, a year-on-year increase of 6.8%; the domestic electricity consumption of urban and rural residents was 1,234.6 billion kWh, a year-on-year decrease of 0.3%.

Hou Wenjie, director of the Statistics and Digital Intelligence Department of the China Electricity Council, said that the pattern of “new promotions and old declines” continues within the manufacturing industry.In September, the high-tech and equipment manufacturing industry maintained rapid growth, with a year-on-year growth of 4.6%, and contributed 47.2% to the growth of electricity consumption in society.

In addition, new business formats lead the growth in electricity consumption.In September, the electricity consumption of the national charging and swapping service industry was 16.8 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 57.0%; the electricity consumption of Internet data services was 9.8 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 35.4%.

Hou Wenjie introduced that in September, the total increase in electricity consumption in the Internet data services and charging and swapping service industries was 8.65 billion kilowatt hours, accounting for 79.4% of the increase in electricity consumption in the whole society. The electricity consumption in the new business-related industries is an important source of increase in electricity consumption in the tertiary industry and even the whole society.
