CCTV News: The State Administration of Foreign Exchange released data on the external financial assets and liabilities of China’s banking industry at the end of 2025.
At the end of 2025, my country's banking industry's external financial assets were US$1.9775 billion, external liabilities were US$1.411 billion, and external net assets were US$566.5 billion, of which RMB net liabilities were US$143.6 billion and foreign currency net assets were US$710.1 billion.
Among the banking industry’s external financial assets, broken down by instrument, deposit and loan assets are US$1,153.1 billion, bond assets are US$547.4 billion, and other assets such as equity are US$277 billion, accounting for 58%, 28%, and 14% of the banking industry’s external financial assets respectively. In terms of currencies, RMB assets were US$584.3 billion, US dollar assets were US$970.4 billion, and assets in other currencies were US$422.8 billion, accounting for 30%, 49% and 21% respectively. In terms of investment sectors, US$1,005.1 billion was invested in the overseas banking sector, accounting for 51%; US$972.4 billion was invested in the overseas non-bank sector, accounting for 49%.
Among the external liabilities of the banking industry, broken down by instrument, deposit and loan liabilities are US$655.9 billion, bond liabilities are US$268.4 billion, and other liabilities such as equity are US$486.7 billion, accounting for 46%, 19% and 34% of the banking industry's external liabilities respectively. In terms of currencies, RMB liabilities were US$727.9 billion, US dollar liabilities were US$264.7 billion, and liabilities in other currencies were US$418.4 billion, accounting for 52%, 19% and 30% respectively. In terms of source sectors, US$523 billion came from the overseas banking sector, accounting for 37%; US$888 billion came from the overseas non-bank sector, accounting for 63%.
