On July 11, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and President Xi Jinping and General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and Chairman of the State Council Kim Jong Un exchanged congratulatory messages on the 65th anniversary of the signing of the China-DPRK Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance.

Xi Jinping pointed out that in 1961, the older generation leaders of China and North Korea signed the China-North Korea Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance, which laid an important political and legal foundation for consolidating the fighting friendship forged with blood between the two peoples, and played an important role in inheriting and carrying forward China-North Korea friendship and maintaining regional and even world peace and stability.Over the past 65 years, the two sides have upheld the spirit of the treaty, supported each other, worked together in unity, and worked side by side, vividly interpreting the distinctive characteristics of China-DPRK relations of ever-lasting friendship, a shared destiny, and mutual assistance.

Xi Jinping emphasized that in June this year, I successfully paid a state visit to North Korea, and reached an important consensus with Comrade General Secretary on consolidating and inheriting the traditional friendship between China and North Korea and injecting new connotations of the era, providing strategic guidance and drawing a new blueprint for the development of China-North Korea relations in the new era.In the face of the century-old changes in the world that are accelerating, I am willing to further intensify strategic communication with Comrade General Secretary, firmly grasp the development direction of bilateral relations, lead our friendly cooperation to better benefit the two peoples, and make positive contributions to promoting regional peace and development.

Xi Jinping pointed out that I would like to reiterate that no matter how the international situation changes, the Chinese party and government’s firm position of attaching great importance to the traditional friendship between China and North Korea will not change, its firm support for General Secretary Kim Jong-un’s leadership of the socialist cause of North Korea will not change, and its firm determination to safeguard the common interests and good strategic environment of China and North Korea will not change.It is believed that under the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea headed by Comrade General Secretary, the Korean people will fully implement the decisions and arrangements of the Ninth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea and continue to achieve new and greater achievements in the cause of socialist construction.

Kim Jong-un said that 65 years ago, the two sides signed the "DPRK-China Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance," which laid a solid legal foundation for the sustainable development of the DPRK-China fighting friendship, solidarity, mutual assistance, and cooperation formed during the bloody struggle to achieve anti-imperialist independence, peace, and socialism.In the past period, the DPRK and China have gone through historical ups and downs and have always firmly supported and cooperated closely with each other, fully demonstrating to the world that the DPRK-China friendly relations will never fade and are unbreakable, which are special because of traditional friendship, special because of the common cause of socialism, and special because of unswerving inheritance.

Kim Jong-un said that the friendly cooperative relations between North Korea and China, as a strategic choice and common treasure of the two parties and peoples, are being sublimated and developed at a new strategic height, and in the complex and ever-changing international situation, they have made important contributions to safeguarding the sovereignty, security and development interests of the two countries, and safeguarding regional and even world peace and stability.It is the unswerving position of the North Korean party and government to promote the traditional friendly cooperative relations between North Korea and China with socialism at the core to adapt to the changes of the times and the will of the two peoples, and to achieve more dynamic development in various fields.I am willing to work with Comrade General Secretary to lead the DPRK-China friendship based on the long history and excellent traditions to a new height and develop into the most powerful and strategic model of relations between socialist countries.
