2025-04-23 source:CCTV News

On January 6, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs answered questions from reporters about Indonesia becoming a formal member of the BRICS.

Q: In 2025, the BRICS presidency, Brazil, issued a press announcement, saying that Indonesia has become a formal member of the BRICS and has attracted widespread attention from the international community. What is China’s comment on this?

A: China welcomes and warmly congratulates Indonesia on becoming an official member of the BRICS. As a major developing country and an important force in the "Global South", Indonesia highly recognizes the spirit of the BRICS and actively participates in the "BRICS+" cooperation. Indonesia's official joining the BRICS is in line with the common interests of BRICS countries and the "Global South". I believe it will make positive contributions to the development of the BRICS mechanism.

The BRICS countries are an important platform for promoting unity and cooperation in the "Global South", an important force in promoting the transformation of the global governance system, and are always committed to upholding multilateralism, defending fairness and justice, and promoting common development. The BRICS family welcomes new members, adapting to the historical trend of the collective rise of the "Global South". China is willing to work with Indonesia and other BRICS members to build a more comprehensive, close, pragmatic and inclusive partnership, promote the high-quality development of the "BRICS cooperation", and make greater "BRICS contributions" to promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
