In the first quarter of 2025, the total amount of social logistics in the country, that is, the total value of physical goods in logistics operations, was 91 trillion yuan, an increase of 5.7% year-on-year, accelerating by 0.4 percentage points from January to February.
The overall logistics demand structure has improved, and the pulling effect of the new engine has gradually emerged. In the first quarter, the total amount of industrial goods logistics increased by 5.9% year-on-year, accounting for more than 80% of the total amount of social logistics, and is still the main driving force for the growth of logistics demand.
Liu Yuhang, director of the China Logistics Information Center, introduced that high-tech manufacturing among industrial products, especially around the new kinetic energy sectors, the logistics demand for industrial products in new energy vehicles, intelligent manufacturing, photovoltaic devices, etc. is growing relatively fast.
The policy effect continues to emerge, and large-scale equipment updates and consumer goods trade-in policies promote the continuous improvement of related logistics demand. In the first quarter, the logistics demand related to general equipment and special equipment manufacturing in the field of industrial goods logistics increased by 9.4% and 4.1% year-on-year respectively; the logistics demand related to retail of communication equipment, household appliances, audio-visual equipment, and furniture goods in the field of people's livelihood consumption increased by 26.9%, 19.3% and 18.1% year-on-year respectively.
In addition, the development momentum of emerging e-commerce models such as instant retail and live streaming sales remains unabated. In the first quarter, online retail sales of physical goods increased by 5.7% year-on-year, up 0.7 percentage points from January to February. While promoting business, enterprises in most fields continue to promote cost reduction and efficiency improvement through intelligent means and management upgrades. In the first quarter, the cost per 100 yuan of operating income fell by 0.5 yuan compared with January-February, and the income profit margin level remained at around 3%, basically stable.
