CCTV News: According to the official WeChat account of the Chinese Embassy in Japan, the spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in Japan responded to reporters’ questions regarding the Japanese leaders’ wrong words and deeds related to Taiwan during the APEC meeting.

Q: A few days ago, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi met with officials from the Taiwan authorities during the APEC meeting, and posted messages and photos on social media accounts, calling the other party Taiwan's "Presidential Counselor." What is your comment on this?

Answer: The Japanese side ignored China’s solemn position and insisted on meeting with officials from the Chinese Taiwan authorities during the APEC meeting and publicly hyping it up. It seriously violated the one-China principle, the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan and the basic norms of international relations, grossly interfered in China’s internal affairs, and provoked China’s sovereignty and security interests. China expresses firm opposition and strong protest to this, and has lodged stern representations with Japan.

There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China. There is no so-called "president", let alone a "presidential advisor." The Taiwan issue concerns China's core interests, the political foundation of China-Japan relations and the basic trust between the two countries. It is an insurmountable red line. Improving and developing Sino-Japanese relations must be based on adhering to the one-China principle. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of China's resumption of sovereignty over Taiwan and Taiwan's liberation, Japan should deeply reflect on its historical guilt of colonizing Taiwan and be more cautious in its words and deeds on Taiwan-related issues. China strongly urges Japan to abide by the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan and the commitments made so far, stop sending wrong signals to "Taiwan independence" forces, take concrete measures to eliminate negative impacts, and implement its stance on building a constructive and stable China-Japan relationship that meets the requirements of the new era.
