Wang Yi: Japan launched aggression under the guise of an "existential crisis situation". Historical lessons must not be repeated.

From December 12 to 16, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan. After the visit, he was interviewed by Chinese media.

Reporter: The three countries during this visit all emphasized adhering to the one-China principle and firmly supported China in safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity. This was in sharp contrast to the perverse behavior of a very few countries. How does China comment?

Wang Yi: During the visit, I introduced the historical facts and legal background of the Taiwan issue to the three countries, expressing China's firm opposition to Japan's current leaders interfering in China's internal affairs on the Taiwan issue. The three countries reaffirmed their adherence to the one-China principle, firmly supported China in safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and supported China in achieving national reunification. An Arab friend put it well: it is natural to oppose "Taiwan independence" and support China in safeguarding its territorial integrity. To condone "Taiwan independence" will allow various international separatist forces to cause chaos in the world.

Mutual support and safeguarding of each other's core interests is the historical foundation and political background of China-Arab friendship. The Arab nation, like the Chinese nation, was oppressed by colonial rule and can empathize with China. Argentina supports China's legitimate position on the Taiwan issue, which is also an upholding of the basic norms of international relations, proving that the one-China principle is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Back then, Japanese militarism brazenly launched a war of aggression under the guise of the so-called “existential crisis situation.” This historical lesson must never be repeated. All countries in the world that cherish peace must be highly vigilant about the rise of militarism and fascist forces, and must resolutely prevent words and deeds that seek to justify colonial aggression.
