The U.S. approves arms sales to Taiwan totaling more than US$11.1 billion, and China’s Ministry of National Defense takes a tough stance

CCTV News: On the afternoon of December 19, Ministry of National Defense Spokesperson Jiang Bin responded to reporters’ questions on U.S. arms sales to Taiwan. The U.S. Department of Defense’s Security Cooperation Agency said on December 18 that the U.S. had approved arms sales to Taiwan totaling more than $11.1 billion. Some commentators say that this is the largest arms sales plan by the United States to Taiwan. In this regard, Ministry of National Defense spokesperson Jiang Bin said that the U.S. announced a large-scale arms sales plan to China's Taiwan region, which seriously violated the one-China principle and the three Sino-U.S. joint communiqués, severely damaged China's sovereignty and security interests, seriously undermined Sino-U.S. strategic mutual trust, and sent a serious wrong signal to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces. China is strongly dissatisfied and firmly opposed to this, and has lodged stern representations with the U.S..

China's complete reunification is a historical trend that no force can stop. The "Taiwan independence" separatist forces do not hesitate to sacrifice the security and well-being of Taiwan compatriots, use people's hard-earned money to feed American arms dealers, and attempt to "seek independence through force." In the end, they can only fly into the flames and cause their own destruction. The United States has repeatedly broken its promises and condoned and supported "Taiwan independence", which will surely lead to disaster. We urge the United States to earnestly fulfill its commitment not to support "Taiwan independence" and immediately stop arms sales to Taiwan. The Chinese People's Liberation Army will continue to strengthen military training and preparations, take effective measures to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and resolutely thwart "Taiwan independence" separatist and external interference attempts.
