The 163rd joint patrol and law enforcement operation on the Mekong River between China, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand concluded successfully

At 10:30 a.m. on April 2, as the Chinese boat 53109 successfully returned and berthed at the Jingha Police Terminal in China, it marked the successful conclusion of the 163rd China-Laos, Myanmar-Thailand Mekong River joint patrol and law enforcement operation that lasted 11 days.

The operation was launched on March 23. China, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand sent a total of more than 150 law enforcement personnel and 7 law enforcement boats.

During the operation, the four parties focused on key security governance issues in the Mekong River Basin and efficiently carried out a number of pragmatic law enforcement tasks.

· China has completed the rotation of its duty teams at the contact points in Muang Mo and Ban Xiang Koo in Laos;

·China, Laos and Myanmar have carried out joint water patrols in the waters from Ban Xiang Ko to Xiang La to severely crack down on cross-border crimes such as drug smuggling, illegal smuggling, telecommunications and network fraud;

·The Quartet organized joint practical training on water emergency response in Solei waters to improve collaborative emergency response capabilities;

·The Quartet held a law enforcement information exchange meeting in Wanbeng, Myanmar, to report on the security situation and share law enforcement information.

In addition, China, Laos and Myanmar also successfully carried out joint training services, dispatched a total of 3 law enforcement boats and 42 personnel, carried out 4 vessel business exchanges, 3 joint patrols in key waters of the Mekong River, 3 joint amphibious public inspections, and inspected 30 passing ships, 121 personnel, and more than 3,000 tons of cargo. This effectively deterred various illegal and criminal activities in the basin and continued to build a strong Lancang-Mekong security defense line.
