Among them, the manufacturing purchasing managers index continued to run in the expansion range after rising to the expansion range in March, indicating that the manufacturing boom level is generally stable and the manufacturing industry continues to perform well.

In April, China's manufacturing purchasing managers index was 50.3%, a slight decrease of 0.1 percentage points from the previous month, and it has been operating in the expansion range for 2 consecutive months.

He Hui, vice president of the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, said that judging from the manufacturing purchasing managers index in April, although the index was slightly lower than last month, the production index and new order index remained above 50%, reflecting that manufacturing economic activities continue to grow in the expansion range.

In April, the new orders index was 50.6%, which has remained in the expansion range for two consecutive months. Among them, the new order index of high-tech manufacturing industry remained above 53%, and the new order index of equipment manufacturing industry and consumer goods manufacturing industry remained above 52%.

Under the combined effect of multiple positive factors, overseas demand rebounded well in April, and the new export orders index returned to the expansion range after running below 50% for 23 consecutive months.

Business surveys show that the proportion of companies reporting insufficient market demand fell by 2.4 percentage points from the previous month in April, reaching the lowest point since June 2022.

In addition, driven by steady growth in demand, the production activities of manufacturing companies have expanded relatively well. The production index in April was 51.5%, an increase of 0.1 percentage points from the previous month, and it has been running above 51% for 2 consecutive months. From the perspective of industrial structure, the supply of new kinetic energy is growing well. The production index of equipment manufacturing industry rose to above 53%, and the production index of high-tech manufacturing industry rose to a relatively good level of above 52%.

Huo Lihui, chief statistician of the Service Industry Survey Center of the National Bureau of Statistics, said that from an industry perspective, the production index and new order index of railway, ship, aerospace equipment, electrical machinery equipment, computer communications electronic equipment and other industries are all at 53% and above, and production demand in related industries is released relatively quickly.

From the perspective of enterprise types, the purchasing managers' index of large, medium and small enterprises in April were all in the expansion range. Especially with the continuous release of policy effects, the operating activities of small and medium-sized enterprises have become more active, and the prosperity level has rebounded significantly.

In April, the purchasing managers index of large enterprises was 50.2%, higher than the critical point for five consecutive months. The purchasing managers' index of medium and small enterprises was 50.5% and 50.1% respectively, an increase of 1.5 percentage points and 0.8 percentage points respectively from the previous month. After operating below 50% for several consecutive months, small and medium-sized enterprises have returned to the expansion range, and their prosperity level has rebounded significantly.

On the one hand, it reflects that policies to help enterprises have been implemented and enterprises have benefited from the policies. On the other hand, it reflects that market vitality is significantly enhanced.

Recently, a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee clearly stated that we must adhere to the general tone of seeking progress while maintaining stability, make good use of macro policies, deeply tap the potential of domestic demand, accelerate the construction of a modern industrial system, and maintain a reasonable proportion of manufacturing. Experts said that these policy measures send out a strong signal of stabilizing growth and will effectively help the macroeconomy to "launch the foundation", "strengthen the driving force" and "optimize the structure". Manufacturing companies have become more optimistic about the market outlook, and their willingness to expand production has increased.

Among them, the non-manufacturing business activity index, which reflects the overall operating conditions of the non-manufacturing industry, was 49.4%, a decrease of 0.7 percentage points from the previous month, indicating that the prosperity level of the non-manufacturing industry has declined compared with the previous month. Industry segment data show that infrastructure construction-related activities maintained steady growth, and festival consumption-related industries have started. The business activity index of the accommodation industry and the cultural, sports and entertainment industry both rose to above 55%, and the new energy-related industries represented by information services maintained high prosperity.
