On the morning of June 9, local time, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and President of the State, and his wife Peng Liyuan, who were on a state visit to North Korea, visited the China-North Korea Friendship Tower. Kim Jong-un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and Chairman of the State Council, and his wife Ri Sol-ju accompanied him.
At about 10:40, Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan arrived at the China-North Korea Friendship Tower at the foot of Peony Peak by car, and were greeted by Kim Jong-un and Ri Sol. The North Korean military band played the national anthems of China and North Korea. The soldiers of honor slowly carried the flower basket onto the platform. The ribbon on the flower basket reads "The martyrs of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army will live forever." Xi Jinping walked slowly onto the platform and arranged the flower basket ribbons. All personnel paid silent tribute to the martyrs of the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army. After the silence, Xi Jinping and Kim Jong-un watched the honor guard procession.
Accompanied by Kim Jong-un and his wife, Xi Jinping and his wife entered the Memorial Hall of the Friendship Tower. Kim Jong-un introduced to Xi Jinping the historical materials, photos and oil paintings in the Friendship Tower that showed the Chinese People's Volunteers fighting bloody battles side by side with the North Korean people and jointly rebuilding their homeland. Xi Jinping stopped for a long time and watched carefully. Xi Jinping carefully looked through the list of volunteers’ martyrs and briefed Kim Jong-un on the situation of the sacrificed volunteers.
Xi Jinping and Kim Jong-un agreed that the years when China and North Korea fought together in the 1950s are the eternal historical memories of both sides. Both sides should jointly maintain the memorial facilities for the martyrs of the Volunteer Army, carry out distinctive revolutionary traditional education, and ideological and moral education for young people, so that the great spirit of resisting U.S. aggression and aiding Korea can be carried forward, and the great traditional friendship between China and North Korea can be passed down from generation to generation.
