CCTV News: On September 20, National Energy Administration data showed that in August 2026, the electricity consumption of the whole society exceeded one trillion again, reaching 1,033.2 billion kilowatt hours, a year-on-year increase of 1.7%; the electricity load hit a record high of 1.56 billion kilowatts, 49.69 million kilowatts higher than the maximum load of the previous year, with a total of 7 days exceeding the maximum load of the previous year.

Looking at electricity consumption by industry, the primary industry consumed 16.9 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, a year-on-year increase of 2.7%.The electricity consumption of the secondary industry was 612.4 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 2.4%; among which, the industrial electricity consumption was 606.5 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 2.7%. The electricity consumption of high-tech and equipment manufacturing industries maintained a rapid growth momentum, reaching 122.2 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 7.2%.Electricity consumption increased rapidly in computer communication equipment (7.5%), automobile manufacturing (7.6%, including new energy vehicles 22.2%), general equipment manufacturing (7.6%), special equipment manufacturing (8.2%), and electrical machinery (12.3%).The electricity consumption of the tertiary industry was 215.5 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 5.1%. Among them, the electricity consumption of the charging and replacement service industry and Internet data services grew strongly, reaching 17.2 billion and 10.2 billion kilowatt-hours respectively, with growth rates of 51.2% and 37.9% respectively.The domestic electricity consumption of urban and rural residents was 188.3 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year decrease of 4.0%. The decrease was mainly due to more typhoons and heavy rainfall in August 2026 than in August 2025, and a significant reduction in air-conditioning electricity consumption.

In August, the total electricity consumption in the whole society was 7.173 billion kilowatt hours, a year-on-year increase of 4.3%.Looking at electricity consumption by industry, the primary industry consumed 104.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, a year-on-year increase of 3.3%.The electricity consumption of the secondary industry was 4,529.7 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 4.4%; among which, the industrial electricity consumption was 4,488 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 4.6%, and the high-tech and equipment manufacturing industry consumed 845.1 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 9.3%.The electricity consumption of the tertiary industry was 1,425.6 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 7.1%. Among them, the electricity consumption of the charging and replacement service industry and Internet data services were 114.7 billion and 69.5 billion kilowatt-hours respectively, with growth rates of 55.1% and 42.5% respectively.The domestic electricity consumption of urban and rural residents was 1,113.2 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 0.3%.
